Calvert County 8th Grade Biodiversity Project

Eighth grade students work with the CHESPAX staff to investigate stream health in watersheds throughout Calvert County. Bundles of leaves are placed within the streams for about a week.  These “leaf packs” serve as temporary homes for the aquatic insects and other small creatures that live within the stream. The leaf packs are brought back to the classroom lab for analysis and the stream’s health receives a grade determined by the animals that are found!
